What is a bequest?
After you have provided for family and friends through your Will you may like to leave a gift to the Flinders Foundation for its general purposes, or for an area of research or the hospital.
It is important that you take the time to consider who you would like to support through the distribution of your Estate and that your Will is drawn up with the help of a legally trained professional.
Your Bequest to the Flinders Foundation could be made in the form of:
- a specific sum of money
- the residue of your estate
- a percentage of your estate
- assets such as shares or property
How do I word my Bequest?
Below are some options to consider when making a Bequest and the clauses that may be used.
If you would like to leave a bequest to the Flinders Foundation:
I give to the Flinders Foundation (ABN: 66 833 644 600) in aid of that institution and for its general purposes, the sum of $..... to be applied as part of the assets of the Flinders Foundation.
Or you may decide that you would like to leave a Residual Bequest of what is left of your Estate after providing for family and friends:
I give to the Flinders Foundation (ABN: 66 833 644 600) in aid of that institution and for its general purposes, the rest and residue of my Estate, to be applied as part of the assets of the Flinders Foundation.
Or if you would like to leave a Bequest of Property or an Asset:
I give to the Flinders Foundation (ABN: 66 833 644 600) in aid of that institution and for its general purposes, the property at …………… (or my shares/debentures etc), free of all duties to be applied as part of the assets of the Flinders Foundation.
If you would like to leave a Specific Bequest which includes a sum of money to a certain area of research or development at Flinders Foundation:
I give to the Flinders Foundation (ABN: 66 833 644 600) …………… and I desire but without creating a binding trust or legal obligation that the money be used for or towards................
What happens next?
If you would like to include the Flinders Foundation in your Will, please advise your solicitor to make the appropriate provisions.
If you already have a will in place, your solicitor can simply make an amendment or codicil to make a provision for the Flinders Foundation.
