FLINDERS CENTRE FOR INNOVATION IN CANCER
The dream of thousands of donors will be realised when the new Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer incorporating the LIVESTRONG Cancer Research Centre opens it doors in March 2012.
With building underway, the $28million Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC), incorporating the LIVESTRONG Cancer Research Centre, will be a fully integrated cancer centre featuring state of the art research, clinical trials and clinical service facilities designed specifically to vastly improve the patient journey as well as deliver new innovations in cancer prevention and early intervention.
Many of the existing researchers and cancer care professionals will be housed in the new Centre with the result that clinical and research leadership will be better integrated. Their ground breaking work has created a unique cohort of researchers and collaborators focussed on the scientific pursuit of novel preventive and screening/early detection strategies and the translation of these into community and clinical benefit. Importantly, extra space will be created to enable us to recruit new world-class staff who will substantially add to existing expertise in delivering multidisciplinary care and innovative research for all stages of the cancer journey.
The FCIC is a joint venture between the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation, Flinders University and the Southern Adelaide Health Service.
The construction of the FCIC has been funded thanks to the support of the Australian Government, State Government, funds raised by the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation, together with significant contributions from the Flinders University, Cancer Council SA, Australian Cancer Research Foundation, FMC Clinician’s Trust Fund and the Volunteer Service for FMC Inc.
The Flinders Medical Centre Foundation continues to fundraise for the Centre to ensure that the facility is fully equipped with the very latest equipment, the very best in patient comfort and to generate funds to support innovative research, survivorship programs and patient services.
